A website for the Armenian Community Centre in Wales, featuring events, news, shop and library. Diving into the world of modern development techniques with React.

Features

  • React - Searching for more modern frontend approach to my comfort zone with Jquery, I tried many templating systems and frameworks. React stood out as one of the most powerful and well thought-out. The state management, function component architecture, custom HTML-in-JS syntax and IDE support all felt so innovative yet intuitive. Combined with Typescript, I could move quite fast, especially when returning to the codebase after a few months with changing requirements.
  • E-commerce - An experience with Stripe, the popular payment processing service. It was relatively easy to set up, but took some care and robust testing to ensure a smooth and safe experience for users. Having set up the payment service manually rather than use a pre-built online shop solution, I gained knowledge that could be used for more complex digital transactions in the future.
  • Dynamic Features - Comprehensive community engagement tools including an events calendar, news articles, shop and library built on the Material UI component library. The features are varied yet easy to navigate, including a big scrolling media-rich landing page. To ensure a pain-free experience for keeping the site up-to-date, the site can be edited very easily once logged in as admin with custom in-place editing tools.
  • Project Details

The community was pleased with the new website's modern design and functionality. The events page has become a key point of engagement to keep members informed about upcoming activities. The shop has allowed the community to promote products in the digital world, attracting new customers and leading to increased revenue.

Alongside my fulltime job at Scanline, it was a balancing act to work on this exciting project with several learning opportunities. I found that after years of programming maybe it got boring, despite being glued to the computer while in school. However I found that working on this gradually without much rush allowed me to keep the energy at my main job undisturbed.
